Samsung Galaxy Star Review
With the release of Samsung Galaxy Star, it is quite clear that Samsung is trying its best to make sure that no other phone manufacturing rival comes close to its market occupancy. This time, Samsung has unintelligently combined some of the entirely contrasting elements into one. To begin with, having a 2MP camera while OS being JellyBean, a beefy 1GHz processor but a low lying display resolution and many other features give a mixed feeling to a potential buyer.
Coming down to the design and feel of the phone, Samsung Galaxy Star does cater to the Galaxy family without a doubt. The body is petite, lightweight, slim and definitely stylish enough to give a luxurious feel. Weighing just around 100 grams also makes it a good choice for anyone looking for a lightweight phone that won’t jag down the pockets.
The goodies do not stop here because Samsung Galaxy Star has a couple of good features inside as well. The first thing that impresses is its 1GHz processor, running a 4.1.2 JellyBean OS. However, what seems to be disheartening is its low RAM being limited to 512MB. So, while you can expect quick responsiveness to a process or two, the opposite of that would really be irritating. 4GB internal storage is also low, of course, but support for additional MicroSD upto 32GB does cover up the leftovers.
The bad part in Samsung Galaxy Star is yet to come, which starts from its low PPI density being only 133. Having this low display quality over a 3-inch screen is a way over board to grab the idea what its designers were thinking. Moreover, furnishing the handset with only a 2MP camera (which only supports 15FPS video recording), defeats the purpose of even having a camera in it. Neither a secondary camera nor any additional camera features, like flash light, add negative marks to it. Moreover, the images captured from the camera are also nothing worth talking about.
Connectivity is something that is needed every moment of the day and Samsung Galaxy Star is right at the midst of high quality features and low attributes. While it supports WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, it also restricts itself to 2G connectivity only; making you say hello to low speed socialization. The touch responsiveness is also just about fine, nothing inspirational what one would usually expect from a galaxy family phone.
What do come up to the expectations are its SNS, office and multimedia features. Galaxy Star supports a wide array of multimedia formats, documents and Google tools which mark its excellence. Then having a modest battery that steers smooth throughout the day is also a good note to have in it. But lack of quality browser support makes one go over all the things again.
Overall, this time, Samsung has come up with a phone that offers a mix of good and ailing features. Where it has a lot of features that attract, there are equal elements that break the heart. Retail response would ultimately decide its fate, still, there are several other phones that offer similar features at a very competitive price; some of them belong to Samsung family. So, nothing novel to brag about!
