Samsung Galaxy Win Review
Samsung just unveiled its new Samsung Galaxy Win, which incorporates some new elements in it that make is stand out of the Galaxy crowd. However, on the first look, it exudes the same old feeling that we have felt in most of the galaxy phones, such as the same curvy body design, buttons and controls on the side of the body, thin but wide body architecture, touch screen covering most of the fascia of the body, just like Galaxy Grand or recently announced S4. Talking specifically about the design of the phone, Samsung seems to be following the tradition of its legal rival Apple in having a slightly new soul in the same body.
Still, Samsung Galaxy Win does have a couple of elements that offer contrast with most of the other same looking phones. Addition of several intelligent features like the Easy Mode, Smart Alert, Motion UX and a simplified user interface, help it rank as one of the leading phones out there. Above all, it has a 4.7-inch touch screen, beefy 1.2GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and a lasting battery and you have a recipe of a phone that is bound to impress.
Talking about the features that make it stand a bit taller than the phones announced in the same pack, the best one is the Easy Mode interface. For anyone who is changing over from a Windows or any other OS to Android, the worst fear is of losing the idea where different stuff goes. For this, Galaxy Win offers this mode which allows the user to put all his frequently visited apps and other data at one place. So, no more wandering around the screen to look for what you want.
Another key element is its smart alert, which keeps the user updated of the key events, memos, notes and the other things that the user might have missed. Although this feature was included in some of the earlier smart-phone versions as well, but here it is more advanced.
The revisited user interface and Motion UX also count as specialized key elements in the phone. Not only does Samsung Galaxy Win allows a very simplified user interface for installing apps, accessing or removing them but also enables the user to make sure that the phone itself knows what to do and when. For example, it mutes when turned upside down, scans images and documents and allows other features as well.
After all the goodies, there are a few elements that count as downsides, like its low display quality, being limited to 400x800 over an expansive 4.7 screen, low pixel density, no Dropbox or a 5MP camera. Samsung Galaxy Win can be confused to be a mid range phone for these elements, still it is expected to rank among some of the high end phones for the body and looks it has.
Overall, a good processor, modest RAM, perky new features, latest OS and an attractive screen size ensure that Samsung Galaxy Win as a well endowed quality phone. However, there are few dark spots that Samsung has left in this phone but considering the pros, they don't count much.
